She, of all people, doubted?

My local paper had a column today about the upcoming release of "Come be my Light," a collection of the late Mother Theresa's writings.

When devout and selfless come up in the minds of most people, She heads the list.

And yet, this book supposedly will reveal that for a period in Her life, Mother Theresa "felt a void in her heart and soul. She did not sense God's presence."

Perhaps there is hope for the rest of us struggling, desiring, to believe in God and yet feeling so empty.

The column does not make it clear that She regained Her faith, although at first glance that might seem obvious. Is it so obvious? I think it was Lance who told me about some aged rabbi who no longer believed but continued his religious work as he always had, because he did not wish to devastate his congregration.

I think doubt is something that reaches us all from time to time. We shouldn't think any less of her because of it. She was only human, albeit a great caring and compassionate one.

Oh, I absolutely do not think less of Her at all, Chase!

Humanity is so fascinating, isn't it?!

Every person has the chance to be like Mother Theresa - it really just comes down to the choices we make. But the power is within all of us...

I have not read/researched the entire life of this incredibly strong and tender woman. She was true to humanity and true to herself in doing what she most believed in and wanted to: being of service to others and so she found her own personal fulfillment.

It so happens that my restaurant manager had the good fortune to meet and be blessed by Mother Theresa!

I don't get a sense of "empty" from you but rather, as you best put it, "I'm an American guy absolutely in love with life, wisdom and beauty, in all its forms, wherever in the world it may be found." Stay in touch always with that essence and the rest will take care of itself. You are a full full full crystal glass sparkling in the sunlight.
