Going backwards? (quick lunchtime post)

"You see those trees?" said my guide on a tour of a certain facility today. "Take a good look at them. Next week, they'll all be gone."

He seemed proud. My group seemed happy too, for the trees are coming down to make way for a big, important building. I kept my feelings to myself.

Ironically, those trees were planted there, about 20 years ago, in a push of environmentalism. Now, with unexpected growth, they're in the way. They'll be swept away along with the deer, box turtles, snakes, frogs, birds, insects and other plants that lived there, who are never consulted in these matters. Environmental laws -- pfft. If you have money and influence, you can build what you want, where you want.

Backwards we go. From what shall we print all our new money when the trees for paper are gone?

I read The Lifted Lorax, by Seuss, when I was a wee kid. It affected me. Do we read that book to children anymore?

Happy 300th post to me!

Three hundred? You've got staying power. And shame on anyone who is happy to see a tree cut down....

As I write this, someone is "pruning" trees nearby to the trees' detriment. It saddens me.
Please just leave them alone. They are already well designed.

Molly: Shame indeed, for the tree of the field is man's life.

Empress: Thank You. Since I'm not dead yet, I'll probably keep writing.

Leslie: Ain't it the truth!

Hiya, ECD. I can't believe someone would be happy to take down that many trees. Such a shame!

Happy 300th! I haven't even made my first hundred!

Congratulations for the 300!

and I am sorry for your trees.

I am sorry that you alone in that gathering of people were struck and saddened by the loss, that the others were blase about it. I know that made you sad too.

Trees... when you have some time to read check out a posting I did....

ECD, I sure did! Was a wonderful time, my favorite 5 days of every year. That my husband enjoyed himself, and my son is old enough to wander the property without me worrying was just the icing on the cake :)

Ecd, in honour of your 300th post, I will print them all out on high-density paper! He-he... just teasing. My country has lost most of its forests and Christmas is heartbreaking for me to smell the wonderful fir-trees giving out their wonderful scent before wilting.
