Terror by night

Sweetie has forgiven me. But it took Her a few minutes to do so.

Just as we were falling asleep last night, I saw a horrible banshee creature with a ruined face, standing beside Her, by our bed. My protective instinct was to grab Sweetie and tell Her that I would protect Her from this thing.

Of course, there was nothing actually there. It's a mental phenomenon, documented in normal people around the world, sometimes called "The Old Hag Syndrome." Your brain, just as you are falling asleep, for some unexplained reason, conjures up a vision of some horrible creature of fiendishly evil mien, bent on doing you harm.

Usually when I see this thing -- and it has been many months since it last happened -- it is on my side of the bed and so Sweetie's only involvement is to shake me awake and comfort me.

Being grabbed in the middle of the night, by surprise, is not a pleasant experience. So I lay there with my heart pounding against my ribs, and She resisted the urge to hit me with the alarm clock.

Okay.. I have to say it sounded funny, the last sentence about the clock. Funny funny, but! do you really see creatures?
wow, amazing.
I do not see any creatures, and I dont'think I want to.
So, does it mean you are having night terrors?
my niece had them when she was five, incredibly terrorizing experience, since there is no easy way to wake a person up.

Ok, that would scare the crap out of me. I think you need to spray a little salt water near your bed to clear up any spiritual or energetic phenomena that might be there.

A lot of people believe that we are vulnerable to the other side as we drift off to sleep and wake up. Yikes.

I get night terrors - so I wouldn't say that these are them.

I have heard of the Old Hag stories and am glad I have not experienced them. I am sure they are unsettling. I am not sure if I should tell you this but the version I heard is when you wake up , look over at your wife and all you see is the old hag looking back at you. Ooooo. I got the goosebumps.

It is terrifying, and I used to believe that I was actually being visited by some evil being out of hell or something. Sometimes it would just be a black shape or sometimes white, sometimes with a discernible face.

One feels very strongly that the being wants to kill you, even though it never says a word.

Then I learned that the phenomenon has a name and it's all in a person's head, it's just a nightmare like any other nightmare, no more real than that.

It used to happen to me a lot. But this was the first time in a long time.

Last night was different, too, in that the nightmare showed up on my Sweetie's side of the bed, not mine, although of course She couldn't see it. And usually I am utterly frozen, unable to move, but this time, I guess the desire to protect my Wife was a strong enough motivation to overcome that.

Sounds like night terrors...frozen in place, but sure you are awake. Something malevolent is intent to harm you. Usually accompanied by thinking you are yelling loudly.
They typically happen when one is overly tired, and particularly if you are lying flat on your back.
