What is missing

I have not walked in a long time. There was that rather hurried excursion down to see a boggy boardwalk with my Niece two weeks ago, true. She got very hot and thirsty and we came back quickly. It was a disappointment.

No, I have not wandered off on my own of late in woodlands, lingering beneath shade, stopping to turn over stones and squint at small flowers.

I have been to visit some blogfriends tonight, admiring their photography, and realizing that not only have I not walked in a long time, I have not recorded it in pictures.

Saturday, if Sweetie does not need me for something, I will walk.

I love walking in the woods and do it everyday with the dog. There's always something new to see. :)

Ela: Isn't that funny -- I was thinking about mushrooms last night, I was reading about chantarelles.

Their gills extend down their stem, which help identify them, the book said.

Janice, I miss my dog and the motivation and courage that he lent me to take long walks at night. We used to hear all kinds of froggy songs then, out in the damp fields and creeks.

Look forward to the photos and woodland walks are to be cherished.

Ian: I certainly do cherish them. One leaves behind the cell phone and other accoutrements of daily life, and steps into the world as it once was.

One has to be alert for new dangers: not traffic or a boss's anger but rather a snake coiled, a stone that might turn under one's ankle, a patch of poison ivy.

One looks not for billboards or store signs but rather for nature's signs.
