Cosmic consummation

I read in the paper the other day that scientists have actually found definite traces of one of the basic amino acids of life on a comet, bolstering the theory that those celestial bodies could be carriers of life through the cosmos.

Does anybody else find it fascinating to think of a comet, long tail trailing behind it, colliding in space with the great beautiful sphere of a planet and the combination of the two bringing forth new life?

Does anybody else see the connection with how life begins in our own understanding?

Reflections upon a Lily Show

I walked today amongst lilies
Of every size and color

I paused before a bloom of bold and brassy bronze
And then a bud barely there
demure and downcast

I almost wished to lift its petals
To face the sun again.

And then I realized as I drove away
This is metaphor for Woman
in all Her wonders
In the garden of our world.

How quickly it all happens

I was southbound on the freeway this morning when I heard an odd noise.

To my right, a truck was losing its load -- a huge, metal drum-thing.

I don't know how many seconds passed -- maybe just one.

The drum bounced off into the road and across the lanes of traffic towards me.

I had to decide whether to speed up and get past it before it reached my lane or slow down and hope that it might stop bouncing before we met.

I sped up, which was a good thing, because it kept going across my lane and onto the center strip.

Who knows what could have happened? Thank God there was no one in the middle lane -- they would have had no chance to escape.

Life is fragile and can end in a moment.
